Throwing Knives

I need your help. Addison wants to buy a throwing knife with his own money. He already has a couple of pocketknives. Should I let him buy one? I'm on the fence. I told him we would get a third party review to help make the decision. Below are the knives he wants.

Addison says, "Please say Yes!!!"

I say, be honest. At least toss in a yes or no or feel free to elaborate. We need at least five votes to make a decision.

If Addison wants to buy a throwing knife, I would say yes. But it has to stay in a locked case and can only be taken out when camping. So, yes--with caveats. (Keep in mind you people's weird track record. Also keep in mind how un-fun it would be to explain any incidents to the ER doctors and child protective services, who would surely be called in...)

Without hesitation, no. The examples shown have devastating potential, far more unforgiving than a slip with a pocket knife. As intelligent as Addison has shown himself to be I do not feel that any 8 year old has the maturity to be given stewardship over what may be rightly called a weapon. Think of Ellie, think of Lafe- and think of Addison. No.

I say Yes. A pair of throwing knives cost $20. Solid objects to throw them at nothing (keep in mind that these have no blood or breath in them at all). Father and son chucking knives together... priceless. But like the others with supervision only, and definitely not at a public place. I say YES.

The girls say unanimously NO, creepy, why? I wish you could see their faces! :) Grace just said, "Who would let their kid throw knives?!?!!" LOL Good luck buddy. I'm afraid we just don't get it.

I say heck yes! Throwing knives are, A: Really cool, B: A lot more durable than throwing moms kitchen knives around, C: A good way for him to spend time outside with his dad (Yes Adam that means you get to supervise him), D: Did I mention really cool? Especially for some one his age! I say set a few rules, keep a close eye on the ninja in the making and let him throw at a designated target to his hearts content! Teach him right and its as harmful as a kitten... Thats my 2 cents

So what's the verdict? Very curious!

I think that he can find other stuff that won't heart as bad, so for me NOT right now maybe when he is 21,32,56 may be. I know he has a hard head my face knows that from the blow received when we were playing at the pool.
